What is The HCG Diet and Is It Right For You?

For many, when formulating health-related goals losing weight is at the top of the list, but finding a diet and lifestyle change that works for you and is both healthy and creates sustainable results can be difficult.

Research shows that using hCG at even small doses, between 125 IU to 200 IU, while also restricting caloric intake to 500 kcal a day facilitates weight loss at a rate of roughly one pound per day. Additionally, hCG keeps the body from noticing that its fat stores are being utilized, which prevents fat storage and “rubber banding” that often accompanies crash diets.

Getting the Most from Your HCG Treatment

HCG therapy supports weight loss best when done in conjunction with a highly restrictive diet. However, if done recklessly, extreme calorie reduction can be dangerous. Therefore, before embarking on this endeavor it is important to speak with a doctor regarding your overall health and if hCG therapy is right for you. If hCG treatment is deemed appropriate, your doctor will help you craft the ideal diet plan for your unique situation. Although the specifics of your plan may differ from another patient’s, the general outline remains the same.

During an hCG treatment cycle, which lasts between 30-40 days, you are expected to follow a strict diet. Patients are limited to an intake of 500 calories per day and may only eat a small selection of foods. These dietary restrictions may seem extreme. However, with the aid of hCG, there is also little concern of malnourishment or discomfort because the body will be utilizing its excess body fat to fulfill its caloric requirements. The following meals and foods exemplify what is allowed on an average hCG diet plan.

A Typical hCG Breakfast contains one of the following items:

  • 1/2 Grapefruit
  • Apple
  • Handful of Strawberries
  • Orange

Coffee or tea may be consumed as desired. Sweeteners such as stevia, xylitol or erythritiol are also allowed. Additionally, 1 Tbsp. of coconut, hemp, almond, or rice milk per day may be used as creamers.

One of the following is an acceptable snack if you get hungry outside of mealtimes:

  • 1/2 Grapefruit
  • Apple
  • Handful of Strawberries
  • One Melba Toast

The larger meals of the day, lunch and dinner, should be composed of three and a half ounces or 100 grams of lean protein and three and a half ounces of a single vegetable from those listed below. It is important not to mix vegetables in the same meal. All spices are free to use if they do not contain sugar, oil or butter. Additionally, the juice of one lemon and a small helping of vinegar is permitted once per day.

Allowable Proteins:

  • Beef
  • Chicken breast (no skin)
  • Crab
  • Fresh white fish (no salmon, eel, tuna, or herring)
  • Lobster
  • Scallops
  • Shrimp
  • Veal

Allowable Vegetables (not to be mixed):

  • Asparagus
  • Beet-greens
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Cauliflower
  • Celery
  • Chard
  • Chicory
  • Cucumbers
  • Green salad
  • Onions
  • Red radishes
  • Spinach
  • Tomatoes
  • Zucchini
