Dr. Wightman and Dr. Holtorf are outstanding physicians with an approach that goes far beyond the typical scope of hormone replacement and regenerative medicine. They address the deepest levels of your symptoms with a kind of sixth sense that allows them to have a good idea about what to investigate more closely about you as soon as you walk into the room.
Your face, hands, skin texture, hair, eyes, eyebrows, feet, the silhouette of your body, your energy level, the way you walk, the pitch, tone and levity of your voice, the clarity of your thinking, your overall demeanor and look. Ten minutes into my first consultation with Dr. Wightman I knew I was in the right place.
I had been to 3 top physicians in Beverly Hills who all had informed me that I needed a hysterectomy. Since I was in my late thirties, this just felt wrong to me. I continued my due-diligence leaving no stone unturned to find the right doctor.
A new acquaintance recommended The Holtorf Medical Group, where I connected with Dr. Wightman and Dr. Holtorf. Dr. Wightman is my physician and his diagnosis and treatment with bio-identical hormones resolved all of my issues in less than 30 days. No hysterectomy needed, just a re-balancing and replenishment of my estrogen and progesterone levels. They also identified that a my thyroid glands and adrenal glands were not functioning at optimal levels and provided a treatment protocol for this too. I now feel better than I have ever felt in my life. This was life changing for me and I will be forever grateful. I hope this review will help at least one person not have to go to several different doctors to finally get the treatment they need.
It takes your body quite a while to become hormone depleted so the road back is not immediate. It may take week or two to start feeling great again so try not to become discouraged when it doesn't happen overnight. Dr. Wightman, Dr. Holtorf and the entire staff at Holtorf Medical Group are experts in their field and blazing the trail to a new age of anti-aging and regenerative medicine.
It's no wonder that celebrities, politicians and business owners travel from all over the world to receive treatment at their clinic. They also have their own in-house compounding pharmacy where they can develop prescriptions to match your needs. The work they do is truly cutting-edge and transformational, resulting not only in better health, but also greater energy, restored youthfulness, and a renewed passion for life.
Dear Dr. Wightman and Cristina,

And thank you for being part of a practice where the discussion and treatments span the breadth of possibilities. Having traveled many medical roads in this lifetime, I recognize the value of all you do and the opportunities you offer to find better health and happiness. In that spirit, I wish for you and yours the HAPPIEST of holidays! Any may 2018 be the best year yet on every level!
Thank you for this opportunity to tell you my story and express my gratitude for Holtorf Medical Group & Dr. Wightman. It's difficult to start with a 5.5 year history and a blank sheet of paper. I can certainly tell a shorter story or hit the main points you feel are important. As for this email, I'm telling you more of the story so you have my background. Maybe this will also give you a sense of just how grateful I am for having found Dr. Wightman.
In June of 2012 I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and had a fairly educated naturopath managing my thyroid levels. But by June of 2014 I was desperate. I was pretty informed about low thyroid issues through social media discussion boards, but I was having serious problems. Everyone talked about brain fog, but I needed to use GPS to find my way home when I was just two blocks away. People on the boards mentioned joint stiffness, but I spent days trapped upstairs because I couldn't safely get up and down in my two story condo. I slept with a bottle of water and pain killers in bed with me because when the pain rolled in and woke me up, I couldn't even reach for the bed stand without gasping out loud.
I knew something was seriously wrong, but most of my symptoms fit within the Hashimoto's diagnosis. I had heard about Holtorf Medical Group. I kept thinking that I could find someone in San Diego to help me. But my symptoms weren't responding to the thyroid medications and I seemed to be getting worse. The morning after I had a seizure, I called to make an appointment.
My first appointment with Dr. Wightman was like none other. He had so many questions. He even had follow up questions on everything I reported and challenged some of my answers. He spent nearly an hour with me and ordered LOTS of labs (that had never happened before). Before I left the office, the onsite lab drew 36 vials of blood. I glanced at the lab request and saw tests that I had never heard of before. As I made the trip from Los Angeles back to San Diego, I sobbed. I felt an enormous sense of relief. The nights spent wide awake, in agonizing pain, and scouring the internet for answers to my medical mystery were over. I finally found a doctor who was committed to getting to the bottom of my situation and he was someone who clearly knew far more than I had ever discovered in my endless internet searches.
Looking back, Dr. Wightman mentioned Lyme on my first appointment based on my symptoms. I had dismissed it because I don't hike, fish, hunt or even say yes to patio seating at a restaurant. I like carpet and climate controlled environments. A tick bite seemed not just unlikely, but impossible.
Initially Dr. Wightman treated the most critical and life interfering symptoms. He addressed my very low thyroid function, hormone imbalances and adrenal fatigue. Within weeks I felt like a new person. I wasn't back to my old self, but I also wasn't trapped on the second floor of my condo. I could work again and could participate in my life. Dr. Wightman explained that I was dealing with pituitary deficiency that was most likely the result of an infection, like Lyme. He explained that my immune system was "turned off", which is a common with people who have had lyme for a period of time. My worst symptoms could be helped with bio-identicals and medication, but we needed to address the root cause. After many tests and conversations, I finally accepted that I did in fact have Lyme. Because I got sick suddenly and so severely, I could review my medical records and trace back to the first dermatologist appointment for a non-bullseye rash that showed up 2 weeks after a business trip to the Pacific Northwest. While I do not hike, camp or spend time outside, there's no telling who used in the rental car or hotel room before I got there. I am pretty positive that I was bit while on that trip.
Three years after my first appointment with Dr. Wightman, I am still on the healing journey. I still have Lyme. But I am far better than I was three years ago and I am participating in my life again. I know what treatments help the most and I know the road ahead of me. Most important is that I have a physician who is an expert in all the ways Lyme affects the body. He listens to my symptoms, asks about the things I don't report to ensure I'm being thorough, runs extensive tests and treats me as a complete person - not just a disease or illness. I feel like I am receiving customized care with each appointment.
Thank you again, Karen. I sincerely appreciate this opportunity to share with you what a godsend Dr. Wightman and Holtorf Medical Group has been. I am forever grateful to Drs. Holtorf and Wightman.
I have been a patient of Dr. Wightman for about two years now and have always been impressed with his kindness. I feel well taken care of both physically and emotionally. When I first came to Holtorf Medical Group I was at my wit’s end having suffered from heat flashes, disturbed sleep patterns, weight gain, mental fogginess and low energy for the past 14 years. I had tried many other treatments from acupuncture and homeopathic remedies to western medical doctors but nothing had helped relieve my symptoms. On my very first visit to the HMG I received help from Dr. Wightman who gave me a Vitamin B shot, herbs to help me sleep and improve my energy and found the right regime of bioidentical hormones to suit me. After taking the hormones for only a few days I was amazed to have such quick results with nearly all my symptoms. Soon I didn’t need the Vitamin B shots or the herbs as the hormones took care of the problems. Dr. Wightman also discovered that I had a thyroid problem which was previously unknown to me and had gone undiagnosed by the many western doctors that had treated me. It has taken almost 2 years to find the exact right thyroid dose and medication for my particular problem but Dr. Wightman proceeded with patience and care and during that time there was steady improvement. Finally, I am back to my ideal weight and energy. I am thrilled to feel so well and I highly recommend Dr. Wightman and HMG.
In 1992, I began having symptoms of overwhelming fatigue, dizziness, muscle stiffness, widespread body pain, mental confusion, flu like feeling, etc., etc. Naturally, I went to the doctor, and then to many doctors, all of whom said they couldn’t find anything wrong with me. Additionally, I started gaining weight, despite what I ate!
I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue/Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS). I was given several medications and supplements, which did help initially. In 1995 I was unfortunately also diagnosed with Fibromyalgia (FMS) and started treatments for this condition. None of the medications, or treatments were helping I tried to continue working in my position as an Administrative Vice President, but the ongoing stress associated with my job, as well as other factors, continued to make my condition worsen. In March 1995, my body decided it didn’t want to endure anymore of the constant battering I was putting it through, and I had a complete breakdown, becoming bed-ridden and unable to work.
I was frantic! I started searching the Internet, reading article after article about the doctors who were trying to make a difference in treating CFIDS/FMS. Finally I found an article about The Holtorf Medical Group, Inc. I searched for them on the Web and found that their office was in Torrance. I immediately made an appointment, and started seeing Dr. Wightman. By that time, my weight had escalated to 380-ish pounds.
After considerable blood testing, the results were in the hands of the doctor who was going to help me. I felt confident of this after the first appointment, as Dr. Wightman was familiar with all my symptoms and how sensitive my body was when faced with even the smallest change. He immediately recognized that my thyroid was very low, possibly contributing to my weight problem, and he set out a treatment plan for me to go forward.
It’s been 8 months since that first visit. I’ve lost over 100 pounds, currently weighing in at 270 pounds. Overall, that alone is a true accomplishment, and although I still have to get bed-rest after a very active day, my cognitive skills have improved, and when I do participate in an active day, it doesn’t take me as long to get myself out of bed. My family and friends say they have noticed considerable improvement since I’ve started this treatment process, and we are all very happy about the weight loss, which is very encouraging.
I have complete confidence that Dr. Wightman will continue to help me, and that one day I’ll be back to 100%. I highly recommend the excellent doctors and staff at the Holtorf Medical Group for anyone who is suffering from my medical condition, and a hormone imbalance, plus all the other debilitating conditions listed within this web-site. Thank you Dr. Wightman for all your understanding, and excellent guidance in treating my particular medical condition.
For some time I’ve wanted to write a letter about my recovery. I wanted to wait until the quality of my life was substantially better, to show all the new patients the extent in which they can expect their health to improve. My story is this: I have been very ill since 1990. Some of my symptoms included: seizures, gastrointestinal pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, headaches, muscle weakness, unexplained weight gain, paralysis of limbs and entire body for days at a time, and severe heart pain. Due to a diagnosis of severe endometriosis, I had a hysterectomy at age 21. I had four or five other surgeries which brought no comfort, only more complications. I went to every Dr, every healer, every alternative medicine clinic both here and in other countries with no relief in sight.
Because the physicians could find no consistent diagnosis, my insurance sent me to a pain management center. There I was given lots of pain killers and tried hundreds of new drugs. At one point, I was taking twenty seven pills a day. Not wanting to become addicted, I took much less than had been prescribed. Without the prescriptions from the pain management center, I wouldn’t have been able to get out of bed, due to the pain. So, there is a place for such prescriptions, especially in cases where the patient is chronically ill. But I wanted to get better, I wanted to heal the source of the illness! I didn’t want to merely survive on Methadone, Stadol, and Demerol the rest of my life.
In February 2006, my husband suggested I look at the Holtorf Medical Group website. I read every word, hoping they could help a lost cause like myself. I didn’t have much hope, but my husband made me go. My appointment was with Dr. Wightman, a soft-spoken man who put me at ease right away. I told him about my history and how matters were only getting worse. I had gained over 50 pounds for no reason, and as an actress that is the death of one’s career. I embarrassingly showed him my medical records, a stack that was four inches thick. I told him how I had just seen an standard endocrinologist and that the tests came back negative for hypothyroidism. This seemed strange as not only did I show all the symptoms of hypothyroidism, but the disease ran in my family! I was at my wits end and to make it worse, my hair was now falling out. My thick, trademark mane had now been reduced to thin wispy strands with bald spots that showed when I wore a ponytail.
Dr. Wightman ordered loads of tests…but, to be healthy again I would do anything. The tests came back showing many deficiencies and hormonal imbalances. They also showed adrenal dysfunction and fibromyalgia. I might be missing a few diagnosis, but the point is, finally I got to see on paper what could be the reason for my ill health. Doctor Wightman prescribed me hormones, a series of shots, which I have to say I dreaded but were not as painful as they looked.
Slowly but surely, my symptoms started to disappear. First, surprisingly was my heart pain. It subsided at least 50% and now a year, later is gone. Thanks to the “meat, vegetables, and some fruit diet”, my stomach pain is 90% gone. My seizures even went away&hellipeach month my health improved noticeably. In May I started losing weight, lots of weight! From April 2006 to December 2006, I lost 50 pounds. I am feeling so much better.
The visits were expensive for us. But I wanted to do more than barely function. I wanted to experience life as a healthy person. Nothing is more important than your health. If you don’t have good health, every aspect of your life suffers. I know, I was very ill for 17 years. Thanks to Dr. Wightman and the staff at the Holtorf Medical Group, I believe it is possible for me to be totally healthy. I see it coming on the horizon and I am so thankful.
Dr. Wightman, I hope you know how much your help has meant to me.
Thank you for being the doctor that finally figured out that Lyme disease is what was keeping me sick for the last 5 years, after seeing 12 doctors with NO success! I am still trying to grasp this unfortunate disease that has taken my very successful and passionate 26 year career as an architect, along with being a triathlete since my early 20’s, my very active lifestyle and traveling the world. My life just stopped. It’s still hard to believe! I was living life to the fullest. The quote I live by is "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined" Thoreau
I know in my heart you can help me get my life back, maybe not 100%, but hopefully to get me back working as an architect. My passion in life!! I trust and believe in you, but as you know I need to be an active part and collaborator with you in fighting this disease and to have a voice in my treatment plan. I know I am on the path to wellness and I thank you and appreciate all you are doing to get me back to a vital life.
With God's speed and my sincere gratitude,
