As a child, Rebeccah Shalev loved brain teasers such as Rubik’s cubes and crosswords. Whenever she got her hands on a new puzzle, she would refuse to put it down until she had solved it, even if it took staying up all night.
Today, Dr. Shalev applies that same tenacity to her patients. She loves working with patients who have been to many different doctors without ever receiving an accurate diagnosis or effective treatment, or who have had their doctors give up on them. The patients with chronic pain who have been told it is all in their head. The ones who are so fatigued that just getting out of bed and brushing their teeth is the major accomplishment of the day. The ones with the mystery symptoms that no doctor seems able to diagnose. To Dr. Shalev, these patients are not only a puzzle she refuses to give up on, but also human beings who have suffered at the hands of an insensitive medical system.
Dr. Shalev earned her doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine at Bastyr University in Seattle, but has never stopped studying. She frequently attends weekend seminars and classes to learn the latest techniques in treating chronic disease. Dr. Shalev trained for six years in the protocols of Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, and is a certified Autonomic Response Testing practitioner. She finds this modality, as well as her other training with Dr. Klinghardt, to be extremely helpful in treating the sickest of patients.
Dr. Shalev believes that in the short term, symptom relief may be necessary to get a patient functioning again, but for truly long-term healing to occur, it is necessary to find the root cause of the illness. She looks at any particular symptom a patient may have as existing within the context of the whole patient. She sees every body part or system as connected to the rest of the body (including the brain and the emotions) and believes that it is this truly holistic approach that contributes to her success.
As a Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Shalev can prescribe pharmaceutical drugs, advanced laboratory testing, herbs, bio-identical and synthetic hormones, nutrition, homeopathy, and energetic medicine — and she often moves between these modalities depending on what works best for a given patient, and/or what a patient prefers.
Dr. Shalev excels at treating complex, chronic diseases, including fibromyalgia, CFS/ME, and autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, lupus/SLE, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) and rheumatoid arthritis. She also loves helping to re-balance hormones and is particularly experienced in thyroid and adrenal conditions, menopause, PCOS and transgender hormonal management. Additionally, she is well versed in environmental medicine and detoxification, as well as in conditions affecting the brain, such as age-related cognitive decline, “brain fog” and adult ADD/ADHD.
More than anything, Dr. Shalev enjoys helping people regain the vitality, energy, and clarity of mind that they have been missing!
