Meet Dr. Blakely
Dear Dr. Holtorf,
My name is Norma and I am a patient at your Foster City clinic. I have been a patient for more than a year this time around. [I was a previuos patient years ago. My first experience with Holtorf, sadly was not a pleasant one; however this note is a not about then]. I have witnessed and personally experienced changes in physician staff and endured a busy clinic environment. I have been a healthcare provider for over 25 years. I confess that I have high expectations in the patient care arena as I tend to expect no less than what I have provided over the years with all my heart to my patients! It wasn’t until I became a patient that I truly was able to see all the perspectives in a patient care setting. It is extremely important to me that I take this opportunity to express my gratitude and praise for your caring and professional staff, in particular Rose Benevides.
I am sure you are aware that you have a gem on your Foster City team. Rose is exactly what health care today needs more of! A professional, compassionate, efficient team player and leader! I have observed Rose and your staff (Nicole and Nancy) in the Foster City location and how they interact with the patients, the physicians and each other. The physicians that work with Rose are lucky to have such an organized and detail oriented professional who is juggling multiple tasks and personalities and does it with class. Unless one has done the job, nobody including physicians knows the emotional fortitude and physical energy it requires to engage with all types of people and all aspects of this working environment. What has impressed me the most, of all the wonderful traits that Rose possesses, is her ability to maintain her composure. Even under very stressful situations, ie: depressed patients, anxious/angry patients, physicians falling behind schedule, forgetting to follow-up, etc. She keeps her cool. I love it!! I use to pride myself in being able to do the same. However, as I have struggled with the reality that now “I” am the patient and dealing with the roller-coaster ride with my Hashimoto’s over several years, I must admit that I lost my cool during a particular incident. There was an issue regarding my medication instructions, office phones were not working properly, and the compound pharmacy had not connected with the office!! All at the same time!! Then it became after hours before a long holiday weekend! Nobody to talk to!! I even tried calling your southern California office. No help, No luck. I was feeling horrible, dizzy and angry! In fact, I was ready to move to another clinic in the bay area 40 miles away!! Then, in comes Rose to the rescue! She happened to be working late and listened to my frustrating voicemail!! It was Rose who corrected and resolved the problems and emphatically when out of her way to ensure that I was satisfied with the outcome. Looking back I now realize that my reaction to a mistake that occurred had only been exacerbated by the fact that I couldn’t connect to a “live” person. Rose treated me with dignity and respect. In addition, she conveyed what her plan of action was going to be to address the problem and then called me back after it had been resolved with yet another subsequent follow-up call to ensure I was “ok”. Unbelievable! I am grateful and I hope you truly appreciate this fine young lady as your world renowned clinical reputation can only be enriched by the staff that cares for your patients. I don’t know if you ever visit your clinics, but I think you should know that you have an employee who represents your healthcare “Dynasty” in the most exemplary way! I also trust you truly value Rose!
I have expressed my gratitude personally to Rose but I felt that it was extremely important for you to hear from a long life patient care provider and a Holtorf patient.
On a final note, I want to personally share that I have improved dramatically especially in the last two months under the care of Dr. Blakely. It’s been a rocky past year (several years really), but this last year has been the worst of my life! I think the worst is now behind me. I am giddy about my continued health improvement and I thank you for being such a patient advocate and educating the “behind the times” medical community!
Thank You, Dr. Holtorf!
